60+ Positive Affirmations to Instantly Make You Feel Good

Updated: Jul 1, 2020

I believe I was about 7 years old and I was nervous for my exam when my mom told me to write “I score good grades” multiple times at the back of my notebook before going to bed. I did not fully understand what I was doing then, but being the obedient child that I was, I complied. That was perhaps my earliest encounter with positive affirmations.

Although I did really well that year, I did not religiously practice positive affirmations until recent years. During a low point in my life, I started getting into personal development and that got me started doing positive affirmations in the morning regularly. Doing that instantly boost my morale, made me feel more confident, more cheerful, just a overall feel good pill for me. Although it did not take away my problems, it did made me feeling much better about myself and bring a lot clarity into my life.

What makes positive affirmations powerful?

Speak the language that your brain speaks

Include only positive words in your affirmations so that it is easily understood by your brain. Instead of saying that I wish not to be sad anymore, simply saying I am happy will be more effective. For instance, if someone is crying, saying “don’t cry“ will make the person cry even harder as the brain only gets the word “cry”.

Keep it simple and present

Use simple words and sentences in your affirmations. Use only present tense and affirmative statements. Our brain responses better to simple sentences in present tense, such as I am wealthy, the universe always provides and etc. Avoid using uncertain words like “could” or “might” because our brain takes what we say and think in a very literal way. If you say statements like, “I used to be poor but I will be rich soon”. Your brain will get confused.

“I am”

I find affirmations that starts with “I am” to be the most powerful and impactful. It give a lot of focus on the being that we are and touches the core of who we are. It is very empowering. It promotes a lot of self-worth and self-love. Saying that I am happy is much more impactful than saying I feel happy.

Positive affirmations are wonderful brain food. Feeding your brains with positive energy will increase your vibration. On the days that you might be feeling lower in vibration, or you just need a little uplifting boost, give these positive affirmations a try. You can read them out loud or you could even put them somewhere where you can constantly see them as a reminder. These are some of the positive affirmations that I like and I’ve arranged them in several different categories depending on how you are feeling that day. I’ve also made them into some cute ice cream themed art. Enjoy!
